First Response Trainer is lead in Dignity and Safeguarding

One First Response Training Officer has become a Dignity Champion and has also achieved the status of Lead Officer for Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults and Children for St. John’s Ambulance.

Anthony Griffin, who has worked as a Training Officer for First Response Training since January 2009, has a background in health and social care and a vast number of training qualifications. He recently registered as a Dignity Champion on the Dignity in Care website.

The Dignity in Care network, hosted by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), is currently running a Dignity in Care Campaign with the aim of giving dignity and respect a central focus in care services. The website features lots of information about the resources which are available to people and offers advice about good practice.

Over 23,000 people, including Anthony, have now signed up as Dignity Champions and become part of the nationwide movement to raise awareness of Dignity in Care. First Response Training is now encouraging more of its Training Officers to register as Dignity Champions and support the campaign.

Anthony’s position as the Safeguarding Lead for St. John’s Ambulance means that he takes the lead for safeguarding issues relating to vulnerable adults and children across Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Birmingham and Coventry. He also sits on the local Safeguarding board. Prior to joining First Response, Anthony worked as a Care Officer for Warwickshire County Council and he has also worked as a Care Assistant at a residential nursing home.

All First Response Training Officers are required to have the relevant occupational background and qualifications commensurate with workplace activity, as well as a formal teaching qualification, such as PTLLS or DTLLS, and are required to undergo continuing professional development and attend relevant training courses as necessary.

Perry Leeks, Managing Director at First Response, explains: "At First Response, we are very proud and supportive of our trainer’s achievements, both in and outside of work. Many of them volunteer for charitable organisations and help out in their local communities and continue to obtain awards and further qualifications.

"We promote ownership of individual learning experiences as well as providing further internal and external development opportunities and encouraging membership of professional bodies such as IOSH and CIEH.

"We are currently putting a number of our trainers through the PTLLS qualification and are now also encouraging many of them to register as Dignity Champions, like Anthony, as we think this is a very worthwhile campaign for the care sector."
